Joy is hard to find in a city
She’s knocking over that old coffeepot
again you put on the stump in the woods
to let you know she’s back this year
She’s busy collecting strength
from things you may dismiss
like dirt, grass, blackberry canes
a pregnant otter that never made it across the road
If you ask her how,
she says this is very difficult
this is the difficult part
and goes about her business like you didn’t even ask
Joy’s hands are tiny
but they are strong and do not quit
there is so very much work to do.
